ACE RR club members Kayleigh Haggo and Gavin Drysdale have
just returned from representing Scotland at the IWAS World Games
2011 in Sharjay (UAE). Kayleigh and Gavin were magnificent and both
return World Champions.
Scotland won all eight RaceRunning events, with Kayleigh winning
4 gold medals; the female 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m. And Gavin
winning 4 gold medals; the male 100m, 200m 400m and 800m. They each
set 3 World Records on their way to GOLD.
The IWAS (International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports
Federation) World Games is second only to the Paralympics for the
disability sports involved and held every two years. At the Games
there were 47 countries and 900 athletes across 7 sports.
RaceRunning was included for the first time.
Kayleigh and Gavin were accompanied to the Games by Ian Mirfin,
SDS National Athletics Coach, Sandra - Kayleigh's Mum and Peter -
Gavin's Dad.
Kayleigh and Gavin would like to thank everyone that has
provided fantastic support and encouragement. In particular,
Scottish Athletics, SDS (Scottish Disability Sport), Quest88 Ltd,
SAAS (South Ayrshire Access To Sport), and some other very special
people (who know who they are) for sponsoring their participation
in the IWAS Games. Also an extra special thank to our wonderful
coach, Ian Mirfin.
